Contact improvisation retreats and silence in nature

The retreats of silence and contact are designed to create the conditions for a sensitive opening through the practice of movement
in contact. “Contact silence” wants to express our research intention with respect to our common creative core and
responds to our intimate need.

Concept and structure of the retreats

We consider Contact Improvisation as a wonderful psycho-physical practice, which, together with meditation and silence, creates that intimate, sensitive and silent condition that nourishes our life and answers our questions.

The ever-present elements are the contact improvisation jams, the silence, the

meditation, the circularity between the participants and the presence of the

focalizers.

The retreats will be organized in non-urban contexts that allow us to disconnect from city noise and hyper stimulation: for this reason we ask participants to turn off their devices or not to use them in the common areas of the retreat. We also ask participants to refrain from taking alcohol or drugs.

Silence

For us, silence is the background in which words, sounds, images and emotions appear for what they are.

In our retreats there is a permanently silent area that contains the practice platform, in this area we don’t speak, while in the other areas of the retreat this rule varies (see programme) and the use of the word may or may not be allowed.

During the night silence is extended to all areas of the retreat while during the day it is allowed to speak in the common areas. The invitation to participants is however to make careful and aware use of the word.

Focalizers

Focalizers are people with experience in contact and meditative practices that accompany the group with their presence and availability. They will always be present in the areas of activity with their support. Together they will organize the proposals of the afternoon workshops.

They are required to have an excellent maturity in Contact Improvisation, both from a technical and dynamic relational point of view, and from a meditative point of view, which they may have developed through classical disciplines such as yoga, Thai chi, martial arts or with approaches related to dance such as sensitive dance, authentic movement, contemplative dance or even with therapeutic approaches such as shiatzu and osteopathy.

Musicians

The music of our retreats is acoustic! In each retreat there will be a professional musician to take care of this delicate aspect on the platform!

The music will accompany us in our practices exclusively in the evening jam. While outside of silent areas it will always be possible to play an instrument, perhaps around the fire.

Organizer

CONTACT SILENCE retreats is a social promotion project of the LIBERA MENTE APS association

We firmly believe that contact improvisation has great social and communicative potential and carries within it an unequivocal educational message. In addition to being the vanguard of the natural and authentic movement, it teaches respect for one’s body and the other, nourishing the fundamental need of the human being to physical contact, gives joy and well-being to those who practice it, reconnects man to his creativity and the primordial dimension of the game.
